Pledge To Eat More Veg
The latest Scottish Health Survey made grim reading. As a nation we need to be eating more fruit and vegetables but the reality is, we are actually eating less. That stark reality will be on the table at the Veg Summit in Edinburgh. Chaired by Taste Founder Stephen Jardine, it will challenge caterers, restaurants, manufacturers and retailers to do more to help consumers make good food choices. Speakers at the event include health experts, campaigners, caterers and Scotland's Minister for Public Health.
On average, most adults in Scotland currently eat three portions of vegetables a day, down from 3.3 portions two years ago and well below the recommended 5-a-day. According to the public health survey, only 20% of people manage to eat 5-a-day while around 12% don't consume any at all. That shortfall has serious implications for the nation's health.
