Gleaneagles brings the magic of Beatrix Potter to its Glendevon afternoon tea
The Perthshire country hotel and estate introduces a new menu of delights inspired by Potter’s celebrated stories
Just in time for a summer of fun, Scotland’s iconic hotel and country estate, Gleneagles, is launching a Beatrix Potter-themed afternoon tea experience on the 28th June set to delight both children and adults alike.
Inspired by the life and story of the much-loved children’s author, Potter spent her childhood summers up in Perthshire where she is said to have developed her love of botany. Dedicated to her affection for the local surrounds, the newly introduced menu pays homage to her hugely popular story books and much-adored characters including Little Pig Robinson, Mr. McGregor, Squirrel Nutkin and Peter Rabbit, who celebrates his 120th birthday next year in 2022.
Gleneagles’ guests will enjoy a magical gastronomic journey to the world of Potter’s characters with a selection of savoury and sweet treats baked fresh daily by Executive Pastry Chef, Phil Skinazi and his team.
Highlights include a greenhouse gazpacho amuse bouche, Johnny Town Mouse’s pea and potato croquettes, Little Pig Robinson’s Crumpet and Crab, Herdwick lamb sausage roll with Mr. McGregor’s cabbage followed by classic Gleneagles buttermilk scones and delicious sweets like Squirrel Nutkin’s fruit and nut slice and ‘hiding behind the blackcurrant bush’ currant buns.
A donation of £0.50 will be made by Gleneagles to Perthshire Big Tree Country Scheme for every afternoon tea sold.
Since 1924, Gleneagles has enjoyed an enviable reputation as one of Scotland’s finest venues to go for a special, memorable occasion, and especially to experience the Glendevon afternoon tea.
The Beatrix Potter-inspired afternoon tea will be served Friday to Monday from 12:30 to 15:30 in the Glendevon, where guests can relax and unwind in one of the hotel’s most serene spaces.
The menu launches on the 14th June and will be available until December before it returns early next year. It is priced at £50 per adult and £25 for children aged 10 and under, who will also receive a special gift to take home. Booking is essential.
Dubbed Scotland’s own ‘Riviera in the Highlands’, Gleneagles is set for a summer of fun and frivolity, with a calendar of alfresco culinary pop ups, lawn games, country pursuits and a dedicated children’s programme of activities to make the most of the ‘Glorious Playground’.
